SARVA MANGALA NAVAVARANAM

(COMPOSED BY SRI RAJAGOPALA SHARMA, A PATRON OF RAJARAJESWARI TEMPLE, NANGANALLUR, CHENNAI)

Another navavarana krithi series is the “Sarva mangala Sri Rajarajeswari” navavaranam on Goddess Rajarajeswari temple, Nanganallur. These krithis were composed by Sri. Rajagopala Sharma, Patron of the temple. (Ifound a reference that these are composed by Andavan Pichai, which is wrong).

This set of compositions include the Nine Avaranams and a Mangalam; totaling to Ten compositions. Sometimes, a Dhyana krithi for the Goddess alo is sung in the beginning. Since the composer has not specified any raga; hence sung in different ragas; I am sharing three different versions here. The First set is renditions by Vid. Deepa Nataraj; the video clips contain the lyrics also. Please use following links for the 10 krithis - 9 avaranams and mangalam, sung in ragas : Sahana, Hamsanadam, Valaji, Lathangi, Charukesi, Ranjani, Sindhubhairavi, Gopika thilakam, Paras (Pharaju) and Arabhi :
